New pavers can make a driveway, patio, pool deck, or walkway look brand new, but sealing them too soon can cause problems. In St. Augustine, Jacksonville, St. Johns, Ponte Vedra, and surrounding Northeast Florida areas, moisture and humidity are a big part of the sealing process.
For most new paver installations, Jax Pressure Pro LLC recommends waiting about 60-90 days before sealing. This gives the pavers time to settle, allows moisture to escape, and gives any natural white mineral haze, called efflorescence, time to show up before the surface is sealed.
Efflorescence is common with new pavers. It looks like a white, chalky film on the surface. It happens when moisture carries minerals or salts out of the pavers. If sealant is applied over efflorescence, that haze can become trapped under the sealer and affect the final appearance.
Before sealing, the pavers should be properly cleaned, dry, re-sanded where needed, and inspected. In Florida’s humid climate, dry time matters. Even after washing, pavers may need 24-48 hours or longer to dry depending on shade, drainage, weather, and the condition of the surface.
